Nigeria Holds 1st Blockchain & Digital Currency Conference

Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Conference Lagos is the first nationwide knowledge sharing conference which brings together enthusiasts, practitioners, entrepreneurs, startups and software developers playing in the blockchain and digital currency community, under one roof. The purpose among other things, is to spur a wave of start ups in the Blockchain and Digital Currency ecosystem. It will also be an eye opening event for those interested in leveraging digital currency revolution as an alternative hedge is an economy struggling to get out of recession. The conference theme is "Learning to Glow with The Flow" from August 14-15, 2017 .

The conference is being made possible by sponsorships from PaxfulSuperDAO, and Humaniq, with partnership support from CEX.io and StartUP Bits. Organisers are Blockchain Education Network and Blockchain Nigeria User Group. CDIN (Cryptography Development Initiative of Nigeria) deserves an honourable mention because they have been on the for front of encouraging the learning and practice of cryptography in Nigeria for some time now.

Smart Contract Development

Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) or Token Creation Events are popping up like mushrooms in a fertile forest after rainfall and you might be wondering “Why am I not doing an ICO?”. Raising millions in minutes (now seconds) seems the new way to go for blockchain-based projects and startups. What is behind this phenomenon and how can you leverage it? In this intensive full day workshop we will cover the fundamentals of blockchain and smart contracts in general and accelerate all the way to developing a fully functional ICO contract - all in just a few hours. You will go home with a solid understanding of blockchain and smart contract fundamentals but also with knowledge of practical tools that allow you to write smart contracts in Solidity on the Ethereum blockchain.

Starting and Running your own bitcoin business in Nigeria

Elliot Huffman from Paxful cryptocurrency exchange will share ideas on how to start and run your own bitcoin business in Nigeria. You may have heard of bitcoin as it is vigorously heading mainstream. Because of this you would expect it to be really easy to get your hands on some bitcoins, right? Not exactly. The more popular this awesome crypto becomes the harder it seems for a first time user to get their hands on bitcoin. It’s all well and good if you are a tech savvy crypto enthusiast but what about when you’re just getting into it? It is like at the start of the dotcom bubble. All the different tools that the internet brought us, blockchain is disrupting everything again.

Cryptocurrency worshop

Cryptocurrency trading, Mining, Flipping ICO and everything else in between.  If you’re just interested in trading and investing, having a basic common-sense understanding of business, consumer demand, and economics is enough to give you an edge over other traders (at the moment), this course is for you. Researching the market is referred to as “fundamental analysis.” By gaining the right information at the right time and understanding how it will interact with the market, it becomes easier to stay predict trends — essentially whether or not a cryptocoin will rise or fall. In addition to fundamental analysis, you also have “technical analysis.” Technical analysis is equally important, but it refers specially to studying charts and finding patters—for example, at a certain price,  a coin will fall repeatedly.

Panel Discussion Session

Expert analysis of blockchain & Digital Currencies. What are the regulatory requirements. Should CBN legalize Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies? What are the inpediments to blockchain technology adoprtion in Nigeria. What talent base exist now, or can be built to narch global scramble for jobs. Its an open mic. Ask any question.

Ethereum for beginners

Ethereum is considered a very broad programming platform where a developer can build games, financial applications, gambling apps, insurance companies, social networks, and pretty much everything we already use today. However, Ethereum is run off a decentralized system which means there is no main authority holding all the information that’s used to create those applications.

Imagine a network or community of computers linked together throughout the globe. These computers verify each other’s work, anyone can run programs on them, and users can pay for only what they wish to use. This is how the Ethereum platform works.
